IUCN Publishes Guidelines on Harvesting Threatened Species
This Endangered species Day, IUCN SULi has produced the Guidelines for Harvesting Threatened Species. The guidelines provide support to decision-makers on managing the harvesting of threatened species.
Globally, billions of people rely on wild species to support their livelihoods, however the management of threatened species requires careful consideration, with over-exploitation threatening 27% of known threatened species.
These guidelines use insights from the IPBES Sustainable Use Assessment to supplement existing knowledge and tools such as the CITES guidance on the conduct of Non-Detriment Findings and the Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of IUCN RED List Data in Harvesting Threatened Species.
